July 2014 Visa Bulletin: Forward Movement for EB-2 India
U.S. Department of State (DOS) has released the July 2014 Visa Bulletin which is the tenth Visa Bulletin for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2014.
Under the Employment Based (EB) category, cutoff dates for EB-2 India has moved significantly to September 1, 2008. Based on the April 21, 2014 meeting between Mr. Charlie Oppenheim of the Department of State’s Visa Office (VO) and AILA, this movement was expected to occur in August, but more likely in September 2014, in order to utilize the unused EB-2 visa numbers from the World Wide (WW) categories. Similarly, EB-2 China too has moved forward by one and a half months, to July 2009.
Under the family based category for unmarried sons and daughters of U.S. citizens (F1), the dates have moved forward for Mexico by six weeks to February 1, 1994, for Philippines by seven months, to January 1, 2003 and for all other countries by two weeks to April 1, 2007. Cutoff dates for spouses and minor children of lawful permanent residents (F-2A) on the other hand, stays steady at March 15, 2011 for Mexico and at May 1, 2012 for all other countries.
This is good news for those who will be current under the July visa bulletin. We recommend all such applicants to consult an experienced immigration attorney to file their application to adjust of status the moment they are eligible to do so. We will continue to monitor developments on this front and will provide our readers with additional information once we receive it from the DOS.
